Each contender who participates to the BOSS contest have to do it acknowledging the following terms:

a) The organisers hold the rights on the algorithms, technologies, softwares, contents and schemes provided for the BOSS contest. As exclusive rightholders, they authorize their circumvention or modification in the sole purpose of research and according to the licence agreement (see below).

b) BOSS is only hold out for scientific reasons.

c) The algorithms used for BOSS are original and provided by the authors explicitly for the contest.

d) The steganographic system provided by the contest can be used under the following conditions:
-d1: the users can publish freely the results than come out BOSS.
-d2: the users can present the proposed techniques.
-d3: the participants have to reference the technique provided in BOSS as the "HUGO" of "HUGO" steganographic algorithm.
-d4: any use of the source code provided by the BOSS website will have to be done according to their specific licence usage agreements (see below).
-d5: any use of the binary executable file provided by the BOSS website will have to be done to their specific licence usage agreements (see below).
-d6: any use of the BOSS image-database will have to be done according to a licence usage agreement.

e) The pictures that are provided in BOSS have be given with the explicit authorisation of their authors.

Note also that BOSS is legal in the country (France) at the moment it is hosted. It is also legal under article 6 of the European Copyright Directive. Contenders that aren't EU citizens have to check whether it is legal for them to participate to BOSS.

- No modification, adaptation, translation of the source-code is permitted, without specific and prior permission from all the authors of the source code.

- The authors of the HUGO code system grant the user a non-transferable, non-exclusive license to use this system free of charge only for non-commercial research or educational purposes.

- The express, written consent of all the authors is required if the HUGO code system or any part or derivative thereof or data generated by the code is used by an individual or an organization for developing a commercial product or service.

- The HUGO code system uses the boost library and respects its licensing conditions
